Over the last seven years this Non-Profit has relied on a large international retailer to supply the majority of their merchandise. This arrangement has been very successful with the Non-Profit being able to contribute over $1 million dollars to youth activities and programs.

The Non-Profit is looking to secure a contract or contracts for $5 million dollars worth of merchandise (retail price). They are interested in working with retailers, wholesalers or manufacturers that would like to be involved in supporting youth and enhancing their corporate image. The Non-Profit is very flexible in the type of merchandise they can buy and sell. The preferred contract(s) would provide a variety of merchandise.

This Non-Profit purchases the majority of its merchandise for 10-20 cents on the dollar.

The Non-Profit will buy the following categories of items: women's, men's and children clothing, furniture, bedding, rugs, footwear, bookshelves, desks and house wears, sporting goods, luggage, books, decorative house wares and toys.

The Non-Profit does not want returned or damaged electronics and returned or damaged computer equipment, no appliances.

The Non-Profit is to have a Merchandise Resale Agreement with the supplier that basically says that the Non-Profit is not a representative of the supplier and is responsible for all items sold, that the Non-Profit agrees to carry insurance, indemnify the supplier, and keep books and records.

The Non-Profit does not sell merchandise that require warranties.

Non-Profit pays for shipping.

Non-profit is willing to set up accounts that suppliers can draw from as they send merchandise. Accounts $100, 000 - $200, 000.

Non profit annually sells approximately $3.5 million dollars of merchandise at regular retail value

Non-profit owns two locations. One store sells furniture the other sells clothing and other items.

This Non-Profit is a key player in a youth movement and shares its best practices with other communities so they can learn and adapt their own model to support youth.

The Story
The Non-Profit has helped a small rural community came together to support its youth and has also helped thousands of kids in other communities. The story starts 12 years ago when an extensive survey identified a huge disconnect between youth and the community. A group of residents decided to take action and formed an organization to provide activities and programs for youth. These activities create positive relationships and experiences that build developmental assets which are critical to ensure that young people are successful in their lives.

This has become a movement that engages communities to proactively be involved with young people, and provide youth opportunities to take leadership roles within their community. This success attracts many communities to examine their model. Volunteers from this community have traveled to numerous other communities to assist in establishing social enterprises to support youth. This model has been implement elsewhere.

The program brought together local business people and youth with the goal of creating a self sustaining funding mechanism to support youth programs and activities, and provide training and employment for youth. The Non-Profit stores provide funding for projects involving youth development, and to date have provided over $1, 000, 000 to youth programs.
